Families looking to keep children entertained during the summer holidays without driving to the coast can experience an urban beach experience right in South Yorkshire. Organized annually by Sheffield City Council, Sheffield by the Seaside returns to transform the heart of the city into a full-scale pop-up coastal resort.

Staged within the pedestrianized surroundings of the Peace Gardens, the event operates daily from Thursday 23rd July to Monday 31st August 2026. Opening times are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM seven days a week. Entrance to the main beach area and the daily entertainment programme is free for all visitors.

The Giant Sandpit & Peace Gardens Fountains

The central feature of the event is a massive, purpose-built sandpit filled with tons of soft sand, bordered by traditional white picket fencing and standard deckchairs for adults.

The Fountains: Directly adjacent to the sandpit, the permanent water jets of the Peace Gardens run continuously throughout the day. Children are permitted to splash through the fountains to cool down, making the area a natural combination of sand and water play.

Fairground Rides & Extras (Paid Activities)

To add to the seaside atmosphere, a selection of traditional fairground rides are available for a small fee. These are situated on Fargate with a traditional helter skelter, dodgems and carousel as well as other firground style activities.

Food & Drink Stalls πŸ”πŸ¦

Would it be a trip to the beach without an ice-cream? Several food and rinks options will be available for all ages to enjoy a tasty treat.
