Get ready for the skies above Majuba Beach to burst into a kaleidoscope of colour! The spectacular Redcar Kite Festival returns for 2026, bringing some of the world's largest, most intricate, and awe-inspiring kites to the Yorkshire coast.

Following a massive turnout of over 30,000 visitors, this entirely FREE, family-friendly weekend is fast becoming one of the UK's premier kite festivals. Operated by the Northern Kite Group and supported by the local council, it features high-flying artistry alongside a jam-packed schedule of entertainment down on the shore.

Whether you're looking to watch giant 3D inflatables dance in the wind or enjoy a brilliant day out by the sea with the kids, this is a highlight of the Yorkshire summer calendar you won't want to miss.

What’s On: Highlights & Activities

  • Spectacular Air Displays: Look out for larger-than-life cartoon character inflatables, high-velocity stunt kites, mesmerizing Chinese dragons, and beautifully synchronized kite ballets choreographed to music.
  • Kids' Rainbow Deltas: A chance for children to get hands-on and fly their very own kites in a dedicated beach arena.
  • Marquees-by-the-Sea Workshops: Completely free educational and creative sessions, including kite-making with local artists, windsocks, and sand-sculpting workshops right on the beach.
  • Live Music & Entertainment: Two live music stages—including the BBC Tees stage—will be hosting local talent throughout the weekend alongside quirky walkabout performers.
  • Stories by the Shore: A dedicated storytelling tent perfect for keeping younger children enchanted between flights.
  • Street Food & Artisan Market: A massive food market featuring over 40 local and regional stalls serving everything from gourmet street food and wood-fired pizzas to sweet treats
  • Family Fun: Vintage fairground rides, face painting, and glitter bars for full festival makeovers.

  • Suitability: Perfect for all ages. Dog-friendly (but please keep them on leads around the main kite arenas).

    • Travel, Parking & Facilities

      ⚠️ Important Parking Notice: Majuba Road Car Park and immediate surrounding roads will be closed to general traffic to keep the event safe for pedestrians. Only designated disabled parking will be available on-site.

      • Free Park & Ride: A dedicated, free Park & Ride service will operate throughout Saturday and Sunday from the Kirkleatham Showground. Just follow the event signs, park for free, and hop on the shuttle bus directly to the beach link. Saturday 6th June & Sunday 7th June 2026
      • Alternative Town Parking: Town centre car parks are a 10-minute walk away, including Kirkleatham Street, Seafield House, and the Civic Centre12:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily (scheduled to make the most of the local tide times!)
      • By Train: Redcar Central station is a straightforward 10-minute walk to the festival site, with direct connections from York, Darlington, Middlesbrough, and Saltburn.
      • By Bus: Arriva services 63 (Middlesbrough to Redcar) and X4 (Middlesbrough to Whitby) drop off in central Redcar.Perfect for all ages. Dog-friendly (but please keep them on leads around the main kite arenas).
      • Facilities: Portable and accessible toilets will be available on-site. Changing Places toilets are located nearby at Redcar Library, Moore Street, and the Redcar Leisure Centre (RADAR key required)..
