Mad Alice’s Ghost Train is an immersive, after-dark Halloween theatrical experience hosted on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taking passengers across the moonlit moors for an evening of Victorian Gothic storytelling.

Inspired by York’s famous ghost legend, Alice Smith, the special event brings live costumed actors onboard lantern-lit heritage carriages. Designed to focus on atmosphere and classic ghost lore rather than horror-movie jump scares, the experience offers a unique theatrical ride paired with a complimentary drink.

Operating for just three select autumn evenings, the experience sees character Mad Alice swap the streets of York for the North York Moors. A professional actor leads passengers through tales of local lore and haunted history during the night-time rail journey.

• Live Performance by Mad Alice: A costumed professional actor hosts and navigates the journey, sharing ghost stories as the train travels through the dark.
• Victorian Gothic Atmosphere: Themed, lantern-lit carriages set the scene for an evening tailored towards gothic atmosphere over extreme horror.
• Complimentary Onboard Drink: Adult tickets include a complimentary York Gin drink or a soft drink, while young adult tickets include a soft drink option.
• Costumed Storytellers: Character actors move through the train throughout the trip to keep the narrative going.
