Railway enthusiasts and families seeking a unique heritage rail experience can ride behind an icon of British engineering this autumn. Courtesy of the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust, the legendary locomotive No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is returning to active mainline service on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR).

The special autumn running schedule marks exactly 150 years since the birth of visionary LNER railway engineer Sir Nigel Gresley. Operating across two separate multi-day blocks in September and October 2026, the engine will haul dedicated passenger services along the historic line between Pickering and Grosmont.

The Autumn 2026 Schedule 📅

TThe locomotive is confirmed for two specific event windows this autumn:

  • Friday 18th to Sunday 20th September 2026
  • Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th October 2026

Daily Service
