This Easter three generations, with ages spanning over 70 years, had the wonderful opportunity to travel on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Seaside Special from Pickering to Whitby
It was difficult to judge who was the most excited, from the 7 year old with an extensive knowledge of every engine we saw, to the 70+ year old thrilled at the luxurious way to travel. All tickets have reserved seating, even those at the aisle had great views of the moors
The journey begins with the sight of the wonderful steam engine pulling into the station at Pickering. Once underway the train passes through some of the most spectacular countryside that Yorkshire has to offer, ticket options do allow for a hop-on hop-off journey if you want to take a stroll in the moors or explore historic Goathland. Whitby station is right in the town centre and offers very easy access to the town, the beach or thse famous steps to the Abbey.
There really is no finer way to travel to the coast. The staff and volunteers that run the service are incredibly helpful, friendly and relaxed. The trains and journey are unique and special. Whether your visiting Yorkshire or you live here a day on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway really should be on your must do list.
The NYMR has launched a host of exciting, suggested itineraries to help visitors plan their journeys and make the most of their experience taking in all there is to offer along the line. Throughout the year there’ll also be a number of exciting events taking place including:
