The World of James Herriot is a fascinating Museum situated in the home of Alf Wight, the author of the James Herriot novels.
Alf Wight was a practising vet and the beloved character of James Herriot was based upon his life as a young Vet in Yorkshire. The TV series All Creatures Great and Small was based upon the books.
See original furnishings and fittings in the home, the veterinary dispensary, reception area, consulting rooms, kitchens and more. All lovingly restored for visitors to experience life for the vets in the 1940's. Including the original Austin seven car from the film "It Shouldn't Happen To A Vet".
The interactive children's gallery lets visitors of all ages try their hand at some veterinary skills. Test your speed and fitness, match the x-rays and even try to birth a calf!
TV studios have been recreated to allow visitors to star in their own edition of All Creatues Great and Small, using replica sets from the original 1970's TV show.
