Katie the steam engine on Kirklees Light Railway

Kirklees Light Railway

The Kirklees Light Railway is a fantastic all weather family destination. The five Great little steam locomotives have beautiful red, hand-painted carriagesfor you to travel for three and-a-half miles from Clayton West Station to our Shelley Station terminus. Take in the glorious views as you steam through the South Pennine Foothills, passing through Cuckoo's Nest, the ancient Blacker Woods, Skelmanthorpe and the Shelley Woodhouse Tunnel (the longest tunnel on any 15-inch narrow gauge line in Britain!).

Take advantage of a ride all day fare, to enjoy hopping off and on again enjoying the delights of each station on the route. Clayton west and Shelley both have adventure playgrounds,

The Clayton Flyer outside Clayton West Station is a miniature railway which whizzes around the duck pond. Fancy a chance to stretch your legs, there are numerous walking routes to suit al legs lengths. Dogs are welcome to to travel for free but will need a ticket.
